NAQT North Central SCT Update

Registration for the NAQT sectional championship at Carleton College,
Northfield, Minn. will be from 6:15 to 6:45 pm on Friday March 6, with
play expected to begin at 7 pm. This will be in the Olin Hall of
Science, Room 141 - the east end of Olin Hall, easily findable on any
campus map, such as at
http://www.carleton.edu/visitors/maps/campus/CarletonCollege.gif ;
park in any of the areas marked on the map as parking.

Schools heard from to this point are:

Carleton (1 D2 - assuming staffing is covered)
Drake (2 D2)
Grinnell (probably 1 D1 and 1 D2; awaiting official word)
Iowa (1 D1 and 1 D2)
Iowa State ("tentatively" 2 D1 and 1 D2)
Minnesota (1 D1 for sure; a second team "possible")
St. Olaf (2 D2)
St. Thomas (1 D2)
Wisconsin (probably 1 team; awaiting word on which division)

I have some hope of teams from Macalester College and/or
Minnesota-Morris. Buena Vista is hoped for, but hasn't been in touch.
If staffing wouldn't be shortchanged, Carleton could possibly add a
second house team, especially if that would make the number more
gemuetlich (i.e., no need for byes) in either division.

With these numbers we are likely to play triple round robin in
Division 1, and full round robin followed by split-field second round
robin in Division 2. Whatever we do, we want to maximize the number
of packets you get to play on, out of the 18 available in each
division. Expect 4-6 rounds Friday night, and 10-12 on Saturday.

Those looking for lodging in town Friday night should investigate:

Americinn 507-645-7761 or 800-634-3444
College City Motel 507-645-4426 or 800-775-0455
Country Inn 507-645-2286 or 800-456-4000
Super 8 507-663-0371 or 800-800-8000

The Country Inn is closest to Carleton, but it's a small town; nothing
is far. Motels in Faribault, to the south, are also only about 20
minutes away, and include a Budget Inn, Days Inn, Select Inn, and others.
