Notes from ABQ

Any of you wondering what became of the Sandia National Labs
Quizbowl Experiment (Message #13067) can peruse the following link.

It's pretty generic in terms of qb information, but it gives an idea
of what kind of thing we hold each week. This just was published
today, so I'll expect those interested USAF members to flood my
inbox with stuff early next week. And, uh, don't mind that
part in the article about one team getting clues revealed
by the other team if they're wrong on a tossup.

In related news, at the upcoming High School Science Bowl (28 FEB
04), I'm going to pitch the idea of a high school qb tournament.
There are usually about 50 teams at the HSSB, and I'd like somewhere
around half of that to come to an inaugural event. This event would
also put into practice the solitary quizbowl concept (Message
#11698) and the modest ladder proposal (wow...back in the list-serv
days) -- the former in the case of a circle-of-death tiebreak after
pool play, the latter to rank the teams in an orderly fashion with
minimized repeated matches. IF indeed the tournament does happen,
and IF indeed the above two "innovations" are employed, I will give
a rundown of how well they worked (or didn't).

The aforementioned SNL/KAFB quizbowl group is in need of some
questions, having practically exhausted the free rounds from the
major companies. I'll peruse the archive, but since I've already
collected some bank, it's only fair that I ask: does anybody have
recent HS or JB level questions for sale? Anything from the latter
half of 2002 onward will be considered. We've played and enjoyed
the '03 Haskins questions, so please respond to me (zundevil at Y!
dot com) if you've got some of that level. I'm specifically paging
Bryce Avery here in particular.

And speaking of UTC...did anybody post the Trashmasters '03
statistics and standings yet?

Lastly...can anyone send me the e-mail addy of Michael from
Vanderbilt? Maybe even Michael himself?

ZD
