Comet Classic Invitational (HS)

Solon High School is proud to announce the First Annual Comet
Classic HS Invitational.

Date: Saturday, May 15, 2003

Location: Solon HS, Solon, OH (a suburb of balmy Cleveland)

Registration Deadline: May 8, 2003

Format: 'Official' NAQT

Fee: $70 per team, $10 off for buzzer set, $10 off for an
experienced (with NAQT) moderator, $10 off for distance over 150
miles (via Mapquest)

Two separate divisions will be open for competition:
Experienced (using the IS-42 set): for teams that will have already
qualified for Nationals by this date and would like some practice,
or teams that have not qualified, but are relatively experienced and
want some upper-level competition

Introductory (using the IS-38A set) - for teams who are winding down
the year, and having never played NAQT, would like to try it.
(Intended primarily for Ohio teams)

Certain teams may be restricted to one division or another at the
sole discretion of the tournament director. (For example, I would
never let DCC or State College play in the Introductory division)

Each division will have separate champions, 2nd places, etc.

The basic tournament format will have each division consisting of
several brackets, with the top two (or three, depending on field
size) of each bracket after round-robin preliminaries advancing to
single elimination playoffs.

Teams from Pennsylvania, Kentucky, Michigan, etc. are welcome to
come and get some practice three weeks before NAQT Nationals. Think
of it as keeping your team in shape. We're aiming for at least 16
teams in each division, but that may change. (Note to Pennsylvania
teams-I believe State College is using IS-42 at their tournament,
you can only pick theirs or ours, not both)

I would not try to use this tournament as a qualifier for NAQT HSNCT
unless your school is filthy rich, as you would have only three
weeks to make the necessary arrangements.

Feel free to post in this topic or contact me if you have any
questions or suggestions at adjnere_at_.... Further updates will
be posted here.

Sincerely,
Noah Rahman
Tournament Director
Solon High School
