UGA Tournament by the Sea Update Feb 25, 2004

Im not sure if this went through the first, so sorry if it repeats...

With a little over a week to go, I hope you all are all as
pumped as I am about hosting this thing as you are about
playingit.

With that said, here are some things 1)- I need to know and
2) you need to know. Both will make things run so much
smoother.

1)- TEAMS: As of today, here are the teams
UGA*
Florida*
ABAC*
S Carolina* (in absentia- packet to be used)
Macon State
South Florida*
South Georgia (?)

*- Packets are in.
Stephen, how is your packet coming along?
Mike, will SGA be able to come. We can let you team have the
bye with the USC packet if you like.

1a)- Schedule. I hope to start the tournament around 915am.
Teams should report to the Jekyll Conv Center Beachside Hall
(which is the farthest to the right as you are pulling into
the parking lot. There is also a dance competition going on
in the left side of the center. Im sure youll be able to
distinguish between the two) a little before 9am. Of course,
if anyone is staying at the Days Inn Friday night, Im sure
we'll run into each other at the free breakfast.
Once again, if you're running late, feel free to call my
cell: 770-337-0339.

Thanks to FL and their donation of the unused Ann B Davis
Packets from Grossman, we can now have a double round robin
(YAY!) So with that said, here is the schedule, which I am
sure will change about 700 times before march 6:

1- First Half Round Robin (using the packets given by the
schools, and this incluces S Car, who can't come)
2- Prelim of music Round (thats all Mark's doing)
3-Lunch (there are some good places on the island)
4-Second half of round robin (using the ABD packets)
5-Music round finals
6-Awards forround robin
7-POSSIBLE Finals match: format TBD, but expect a best two
of three if one team is undef and the other only lost to
them.

DIRECTIONS: Take Exit 29 from I-95. Go east towards the
coast. About eight or so miles later, you'll see a very
large suspension bridge (the Lanier Bridge). Before that is
the turn-off for Jekyll. [If you go over the bridge, youve
gone too far.] Go right onto the Jekyll Causeway. You go for
a few miles and then come to the gate house where you pay
the $3 to get on. Keep going straight until you get to
Beachview Dr. The Convention Center is right in front of
you. To get to the Days Inn, turn right (go South) and the
hotel is on the left about 200 yards down. Beachside Hall is
the rightmost area of the Center facing the ocean. Im sure
there will be signs or something like that there.

GOLF TOURNEY: Weather permitting, the optional mini-golf
tournament will be played around 9 or 10am SUNDAY SUNDAY SUNDAY,
right when the course opens. This is optional and I believe the cost
to play is $5, so make sure you have the funds. Basic mini-golf
rules apply. We may try a "skins" type game for points, but who
knows.

JEKYLL ISLAND ENTRY: There is a $3 entry fee to get on the
island every time you do so. If you see youself going on and
off a lot, there should multi-use passes for sale at the
gate. However, there are good places to eat (including a
24hr Huddle House) so unless your staying off the island,
there is no need to leave.

RULES:
There will be power marks, and NAQT rules of such will be
used. Also, we are instigating three new ideas that (we
think) are unique to the tournament (but I could be wrong):

1-SUPER BONUS: Boni which are worth anywhere from 35-50
points. Most of these are lists and the answers do get
progressively harder as you go down.

2-STYLE POINTS: Basically you get an extra five points if
you mention something about the answer or say the answer a
certain way. I'll explain this more at the meeting. They are
very rare, so I wouldn't stress too much about it.

3- Player "Fouls"- This I took straight from basketball. If
any one player gets three negs in a game, they are pulled
out...it's just like being fouled out. I figure this would
make things a bit interesting if say, three people fould out
on a four person team. More on this at the meeting.

I think that's it for now. If you have any questions, please
feel free to contact me.
