JHU TRASH Tournament, Official Announcement

Sorry for the long delay in posting this officially, but we waited to
see if there would be any more potential interest and also needed
some extra time to work out the exact details. That said, I'm pleased
to announce:

The First Annual Mike DeSantis, Esq., Memorial TRASH Tournament,
_at_ The Johns Hopkins University,
Baltimore, MD
Saturday, March 27th, 2004

ELIGIBILITY: We are allowing any players who are currently affiliated
with a college or university as a student at any level (ie.
undergrad, grad, law, med, etc.). Teams composed of players from
multiple schools will be allowed as well. However, only teams
composed entirely of undergrads from the same school will be eligible
for the top spots in the playoffs and prizes (though depending on the
involvement, there will also be a prize for top individual masters
player).

PRICING (taken pretty much straight from mid-Atlantic TRASH
Regionals):

$75 for the first team
$60 for the second team
$50 for the third and additional teams

-$10 per working buzzer system
-$10 per moderator/scorekeeper
-$15 if you're coming from more than 200 miles away as determined by
MapQuest

No school will pay less than $40 per team.

TOURNAMENT STRUCTURE: This will depend on the number of teams who
wish to compete. We are shooting for a straight round robin format
with three rounds of single-elimination playoffs and consolation
games for those who don't make the playoffs. Every team will be
offered a minimum of 8 preliminary rounds and 3 playoff rounds; if we
get enough teams, we'll be capping the tournament at 11 prelim rounds
and 3 tournament rounds, in the interests of time.

PACKETS: You need not write them, as this is an in-house written
tournament.

LOCATION/DATE/TIME: The tournament will be held on Saturday, March
27th, at the Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore, MD. We will begin
at 9 o'clock sharp, with registration most likely beginning at 8.

RANDOM NOTE: To all of those who mentioned they'd prefer a tournament
the following weekend, I'm sorry--this was by far the more popular
date.

That's about it for now. We're asking teams to officially register as
quickly as possible at nosborn3[at]jhu[dot]edu (even if you
previously e-mailed me about interest). Also, if you have any
questions please don't hesitate to write to that address.

Thanks a lot, and we're looking forward to a great tournament.
