18 months ago, there was no prime-time WWTBAM airing the night after
it was taped. All other shows had a significant lag between taping
and air date, and all other shows had at least the one-year rule
(the short-lived You Don't Know Jack's 18 month rule is the only one
I've heard of in a long time that was different), so no other U.S.
game would have taken you. I suspect you're right they didn't
consider the possibility. Until the SuperMillionaire rule that the
blackout only applied to appearances on "prime-time" gameshows,
every other game didn't draw any distinction among prime-time,
daytime, or syndicated.

Out of curiosity, if you have a copy of the appearance contract you
signed, how is the one-year clause worded now? Does it
mention "taping date," broadcast date," or something ambiguously
along the lines of "within a year prior to your appearance on
Jeopardy!?"

On another note (and to up the qb content of this thread :) ), it is
probably safe to assert that the academic competition community
provides a higher proportion of quiz show contestants than does any
other population. But given the intense feelings some have for
various formats, I've occasionally wondered what percentage of the
academic competition community would decline to appear on J! and/or
either WWTBAM because the questions are non-pyramidal, and so many
of them are non-academic? In other words, is the money or the
fifteen minutes of fame enough to overcome strong preferences for
purely academic formats? I suspect there are some very strong
players in this community who have no interest in quiz shows at all,
and would decline to appear; but am curious as to how many and whom.
