Caltech's general knowledge tournament has been rescheduled

Since things didn't work out in May, Caltech is going to try again to
put together a new trashy tournament called:

Rear Admiral Knowledge: The Search for More Money, or General
Knowledge's March to the $ea.

This tournament will be held the same weekend as QuESADILLA, our free
summer tournament (please see the usual sources for info); we'll
probably run both tournaments on the same day with QuESADILLA starting
early and finishing ~4pm with this tournament running through dinner
(we'll coordinate pizza purchasing).

We want this to be more of a general knowledge trash tournament than a
typical trash tournament (i.e. less sci-fi, anime, random-ass
underground music bands ... think Jeopardy! minus the academic
subjects). We will likely reprise (i.e. steal) some of the novel
ideasused in UCLA's TrashIt tournament such as coupons for second
chance tossups, double your bonus, lames, etc. Difficulty will be at
or slightly below TRASH regionals.

Here are the general details:

Fees:

Base Fee: $70
Nth team: -10(n-1): 0 for first team, 10 for second, and so on
Buzzer: -10 (limit one per team; a school bringing n teams can bring n
buzzers)
Early Packet: -30 (June 26)
-15 (July 10)
-5 (July 19)
Late Packet: +10 (for every two days after July 24)
No Packet: +20 (with notice given by July 10, subject to approval)

Packets/registration should be sent to quizbowl_at_...

Stuff you should have learned in Sex Ed
Anything that doesn't fit into the other categories: Be Creative!

Sports and Games 5/5

Video Games
Board Games
Professional Sports

Simpsons 1/1 - Very important, don't forget

Simpsons questions will be permitted once a packet. For many of you
this will mean much more Simpsons, for me, much much less.

This is a very loose distribution, but please be reasonable in your
packets. A little of anything is good, but don't let it get out of
hand.

Every team of four breathing college students suffering only minor
effects of prolonged drug use should be able to answer 80% of tossups
by the end of the question and get between 5-10 points on every bonus,
but earning 30 points should only be possible for those who
demonstrate deep knowledge of the subject. All boni except
40-30-20-10s should have a maximum of 30 points.

If you have any questions, please send them to Parag
(parag_at_...) or Jordan Boyd-Graber (jbg_at_...);
one of us will get back to you ASAP.

Thanks, and hope to see you on the 31st.

Parag & Jordan
