Re: Thank you, Mr. Goss (1/2)

"It's nice to see that someone other than a
Maryland player is tired of comments made by people with
no firsthand knowledge of tournament events. It's
also nice to know that Andy Goss will continue to
amuse the rest of us by posting ludicrous statements
despite being ignorant and wrong."

This sounds
like a veiled attack against qb or quizbowl - people
without firsthand knowledge of tournament events often
post on tournaments or issues surrounding them that
were raised. Anyone who is not at a tournament and
involved in an incident gets things secondhand or worse
(assuming that they don't make things up). Eliminating
non-firsthand comments also tends to eliminate the increased
objectivism that may come from non-participants.

I
think that the goal here is to avoid making blanket
statements (favoring lots of if/then comments), which is a
line that Mr. Goss didn't really seem to cross. To
discredit all posts that are not firsthand (save those that
you like) seems like a misguided effort.

But
then, of course, I have no firsthand knowledge of what
Mr. Nam really means ... :-).
