The 2005 British Columbia Hybrid Tournament was held today, March 26th, 2005, and 5 teams and (eventually) 16 players competed. I'd like to thank everyone who showed up to compete. Specifically, since I had no staff, I'd like to thank everyone who read and scorekept on their bye rounds, and Mike Whitaker for booking rooms for us. The winning team was Ironic Insular Invertebrates from UBC, consisting of Luka, Brendan, Mike and Zarya. In 2nd place was Yellow Peril (Hanson, Bruce, Arthur, Fred) and in 3rd The Quizbowl Soap Project (Brock, Joanne, Dean, Pamela). Who's Afraid of Teen Wolf Too? (Carlos) was 4th while Cool AND Inventive Team Name (Geoff, Brittany and new player Patrick) came in 5th. Top scorers were Carlos with 67.2, beating the top scorer in Ottawa, Brock with 41.7, Bruce and Brendan with 35 and Luka with 30.6. Most negs went to Hanson with 8 (in 9 games), although Fred played only 4 games and had 4 negs in that span. Most powers was a tie between Carlos and Luka with 6 each in 9 games, although again, Fred had 3 in his four game span, meaning Fred took both most powers/game and most negs/game. A full tournament report should be posted before the Easter weekend is up. An all-star game was played after the final matches. The champion Ironic Insular Invertebrates took on Fred, Hanson, Carlos, Bruce, Dean and Pamela. The mixed team beat the champs 360-345. Top scorer honours in that game go to Carlos with 60 (and 3 powers!), Zarya with 40 and Luka with 35. I hope everyone has a nice Easter. Daniel Pareja
