Re: [quizbowl] TDing: SQBS or LiveStat?

I've got a decent amount of experience with one of the listed
programs, so I figure I can answer this question reasonably well.

Livestat 1.2 was released in June 2002, and it's missing some pretty
important stuff. I made quite a few changes to it (adding support for
multiple brackets, adding a much more friendly user interface, and a
few others). I've been calling it Livestat 1.5, though I really
shouldn't, as I've not even gone so far as to mention these changes
to its original creator. It, too, has bugs: as I just mentioned in a
private e-mail to the parent poster, Livestat likes to choke on
various encodings under Perl 5.8.

I've also been working on a complete rewrite of it to include all of
the other missing features and a GUI front-end for entirely too long
now; both of these are about halfway done. Other projects have
restricted the amount of time I can put in, though.

If people are interested, I can (given the original license of
Livestat) release my modified version. Takers?

To answer your questions: I've seen various Excel spreadsheet macro
programs for doing something very similar. Couldn't point you to them.
As for Livestat's plus points? For one, it doesn't require Windows in
order to run...
