Results: 2005 NAQT New Mexico High School Championship

The 2005 NAQT New Mexico High School Championship was
held on this Saturday, April 23rd, in the Science 

Center at the Albuquerque Academy.  Here are the
results:

Congratulations to Albuquerque Academy 1 for their
exhilirating tournament victory over La Cueva High 

School in a one-game playoff, 295-265.  The teams went
undefeated during round-robin play, with each 

team's only blemish being the tie against the other. 
Fittingly, the teams were tied at the half of the 

finals match as well.

This event marked the first quizbowl event in NM high
school history, to the best of any of our 

knowledge, and it was seen to be a wonderful success. 
Efforts are already being made towards making a 

November event a reality.

Of course this event couldn't have gone off without
significant help from many generous parties.  

Special thanks to NAQT for providing us with a set of
questions and Albuquerque Academy for offering 

their Science Center as a host site.  By name, a debt
of gratitude is owed to Tom and Dave from Academy 

for hosting, Jerry, Nancy, Jenny, George, Tom (Sandia
National Labs) and John (AFRL) for assisting with 

moderating and scoring, Ahmed (for his tournament
direction and moderating/scoring), and Wes (Sandia) 

for photocopying the rounds on her home machine.  I
would be remiss if I left out the coaches (Carla, 

Linda, Ann, and Jason) who took the time to prepare
their teams for this event, not to mention spending 

most of their Saturday at the tournament or in
transit.  I hope you all enjoyed this as much as I
did.
