Trash Tournament Following Chicago Open on Sunday, July 3rd

Hey all,

I thought I'd posted an announcement of this tournament to this group
as well as the hsquizbowl board, but seems I did not.

I just wanted to let people know about the trash tournament that
Andrew Yaphe and I are writing to be held on Sunday July 3rd, the day
after Chicago Open.

Here are some basic details:

Here are some details:

- The packets would be 20/20 following this basic distribution: 5/5
Sports, 5/5 Music, 6/6 Visual (Movies and TV), and 4/4 Other (video
games, comics, pop lit including sci fi/fantasy and Ian McEwan, food
and drink, games, fashion and fragrances, quizbowl celebrities, gossip
- quizbowl and otherwise, etc.)

- With the possible exception of 1/1 Visual, 1/1 Music, and a minority
of the sports (a max of 2/1 or 1/2) per packet, the questions will be
on things of the last couple of decades.

- The questions will be shorter than the standard of today's ACF.

- The base fee will be $60, with a $10 discount if you played in the
academic team tournament (1 per team), and a $5 buzzer discount (1 per
team)

- Teams will be guaranteed 8 games

We want to cap the field at 10 teams. As of now 4 are definite with 5
likely, and I imagine one or two more will coalesce out of people
interested in playing.

I can promise you plenty of pop culture goodness, from sugary sweet
aguilera pop to some lame-ass but amusingly pretentious hardcore mike
jones rap. The full gamut will be run in all categories of course.

E-mail me at suby10 at yahoo dot com if you want to register a team,
yourself as a free agent, or have any other questions about the
tournament or the weekend's events in general.

Thanks,

Subash
