Gateway XI / TRASH Regionals Midwest Results

First off, I'd like to thank all the teams who came out to St. Louis
this weekend for another Midwest Extravaganza of Academics and TRASH.

Saturday was the Gateway Invitational Tournament 11. Sixteen teams,
lots of fun, and Illinois A ruled the day, going a combined 11-0 and
finishing two games clear of the field. A three-way tie for 2nd was
broken by points scored among playoff teams, which gave Truman State
"B" the 2nd place trophy, OK State A 3rd place, and Illinois B 4th.
Individual honors go to Mike from Illinois (37 powers in 7 prelim
games, 129ppg), Avram from Grinnell (2nd with 70ppg; neg leader with
14), and Adam from Depauw (a close 3rd with 69ppg). Full preliminary
results are available at the following link, which has a link to
playoff results.

Sunday was the Midwest TRASH Regional, with six teams, two from Rolla,
an Illinois team, License to IL, Depauw, and a house team. After a
double round-robin, License to IL (Colby, Arma, Robert, and Charlie; a
Northwestern alum/Loyola hybrid) was the class of the group at 9-1,
two games ahead of a second-place tie between House Party 4 (Wash U)
and It's All Pink in the Middle (Rolla), and featuring the top two
individual scorers in Colby and Robert. Mike from UIUC claimed the neg
title while Matt from House Party was 3rd in scoring. For their
efforts, License earned a kit endeavored to get them to find religion,
including such items as Billy Graham's book, Left Behind: The
Movie and The Andy Griffith Show Trivia Game. Other team names
were Fits 'n' Starts (Depauw), Jason Mueller Fan Club (Rolla B;
included "Buzzer Rock", an actual rock that, sadly, didn't contribute
much), and UIUC.

Great thanks to Paul Nelson, Jeremy White, and Leslie for their
moderating today, and in Paul's case yesterday as well. We look
forward to seeing all of you teams back for GIT 12, sometime next fall
most likely.
