Announcing the NAQT Canada (East) SCT

Hi everyone,

The Trivia Club at McGill University is happy to announce that we will
be hosting the NAQT Canada (East) sectional championship tournament on
our beautiful Montreal campus on Feb. 11, 2006.

The tournament should run most of the day on Saturday, from
approximately 9am to 5pm. Saturday will be the only day on which the
tournament is held, and given the early start time, we recommend that
teams arrive on Friday night.

We are hoping to do a split field of D-1 and D-2 teams, depending on
the number of teams that sign up. We will be receiving 16 packets from
NAQT, so the extent of the round robin will be determined by the
number of teams that are playing in each division while still allowing
for playoffs.

The NAQT base cost is $120 per school for the first team and $100 per
team for every successive team. Discounts for buzzers, clocks,
moderators, etc. have yet to be determined, but rest assured that
there will be some. More details about this will be provided as the
tournament date approaches.

All fees will be paid in the native currency of the institution unless
arrangements are made otherwise at an exchange rate to be determined
by the hosts. Significant discounts will be given to teams travelling
from a distance, and will be decided on a case-by-case basis. New
schools will pay the minimum fee, whatever that might be. Please
contact me if you feel your school qualifies for either of these
discounts.

As for getting to Montreal, McGill offers information at
www.mcgill.ca/visiting.

Montreal is easily accessible by car, bus, train and plane. See here
for directions: https://home.mcgill.ca/visiting/directions/. Train is
probably the easiest way to go if travelling within Canada (and is
reasonably comfortable), although the bus is cheaper. McGill is also
accessible by Amtrak from New York, but Greyhound is probably your
best bet from New England. Visit www.greyhound.ca or
www.greyhound.com, and look for companion fares to save money.

In terms of accomodations, McGill has a number of official hotels, all
located near campus, at which visitors can get discounts by asking for
the "McGill rate." The list can be found here:
https://home.mcgill.ca/ancillary/travel/hotels/.

Another option, although not an official McGill hotel, is the Quality
Hotel located at 3440 av. du Parc. It is very reasonably-priced, and
may offer a McGill discount even though it is not affiliated with the
program.

If you have any additional pressing questions or want to RSVP early,
please contact me at triviaclub_at_hotmail.com. A fuller announcement
will follow within the next couple of weeks and then more or less
every week thereafter, until the field is closed on or around Feb. 4.
