2006 NAQT North SCT Update

Hamline University is honored to be the host of the 2006 NAQT North SCT. So far, only Carleton and Drake have shown interest in sending teams. Hamline will be hosting one as well.

The official announcement for the tournament can be found at http://www.geocities.com/hucollegebowl/naqtnorthsct.html and is being updated as things shake out.

Here is the information again:
What: NAQT North Sectional Tournament

Where: Hamline University. We will be playing in Drew Science and the Giddens Learning Center

When: Saturday, February 11, 2006 beginning at 9:00 am and concluding around 6:00pm

Cost: The NAQT fee is $120 for the first team for each school and $100 for each additional team. There will be a $10 penalty for teams that fail to register before February 4. We are also offering the following discounts (two of each discount per team):

* Moderator/Score Keeper: $25.00 (up to 2 per team)

* Lockout Device: $10.00 (up to 2 per team)

* Timer: $10.00 (up to 2 per team)

* New team discount: $40.00 per team (1 per team for teams whose schools have not played in the NAQT in the last two years.)

Payment: You can pay in advance if you want, but we will be accepting entry fees the day of the tournament. To pay in advance, please email us for the address to send the entry fee to.

Lodging: We recommend you stay in one of these hotels. If you cannot get a room in one of these hotels, don't panic. There are about 30 different hotels within 15 minutes of Hamline. The ones below are just the closest ones:

Days Inn, St. Paul

Holiday Inn Express, St. Paul

Country Inn & Suites, Roseville

Best Western Kelly Inn, St. Paul

Divisions: We will be offering both Division 1 and Division 2 tournaments if at least four teams sign up for each division. The eligibility requirements can be found at http://naqt.com/collegiate-eligibility.html .

Format: The tournament will be run in some sort of round robin depending upon the number of teams that register. All teams will play at least 10 rounds.

Prizes and Qualifying for Nationals: The top Division 1 and Division 2 teams receive an automatic bid for Nationals. The remaining bids to Nationals will be assigned by the NAQT based on the teams' statistical performance (Hamline won't have anything to do with that). The 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place teams (as determined by win-loss record) will receive trophies.

Schedule: The tournament kicks off at 9:00 am. There will be a meeting for moderators at 8:30 and a meeting for teams at 8:45 am. Both meetings will be held in Giddens Learning Center 100E. Teams can check in any time between 8:00 and 8:45 am. The length of the tournament will depend on the number of teams. We will pause around noon for a lunch break.

Special Events: We will be showing Quiz Show the night before the tournament (Friday) for Hamline students. Snacks will likely be provided. People from other schools are welcome to come.

Meals: We will not be providing lunch, but we will have juice and donuts out for teams in the morning. A restaurant guide will be provided for teams so they can find good places to eat.

Parking: Parking is free in all of the lots around campus. If there are other events going on that day, we will reserve a lot and issue everyone parking passes. So please email us with how many cars you plan to bring.
