NAQT Sectionals Mid-Atlantic (at Maryland) Full Announcement

Hey all,
Here's the full announcement for the Mid-Atlantic region NAQT SCT to
be held February 11 at College Park:

Teams interested in registering should contact me at crettere [at] umd
[dot] edu (crettere_at_...) no later than February 4, although the
earlier you register, the nicer I'll be.

In accordance with NAQT policy, the field is officially open until
February 4 and teams that withdraw within 72 hours of the beginning of
the tournament will incur a cancellation fee of up to $40. Teams that
withdraw within 24 hours of the beginning of the event, or which do
not show up at all, will be assessed a cancellation fee of up to $80.

Basic Costs:
First Team: $120
Additional Teams: $100

For new teams:
Contact me and we'll talk

Discounts by type:
Moderator: -$10 per moderator (please let me know in advance if you
are bringing a moderator)
Buzzer: -$10 per working system (limit 3 per school, also appreciated
if known in advance)
Early Registration (i.e. by January 13): -$5 per team
Parking: TBD*

*We are anticipating some issues with parking, i.e. that is the day of
the Maryland-Duke basketball game at Maryland. In light of this, I am
willing to subsidize any parking fees that teams might have to pay to
park at Maryland, as it is normally free on the weekends and I do not
want this to interfere with any team's ability to attend the
tournament. I am currently in the works of trying to figure out where
participants may park for free that is relatively close to the
building we will play in. In the event that this does not work out,
all teams that drive will receive discounts off of their entry fees
based on what they have to pay for parking.

Team check-in will start at 8:20am in Jimenez on February 11 as usual
with tournaments at Maryland. In accordance with our policy of trying
to get people there on time, we will have doughnuts and juice
available on a first-come, first-eat basis. We want to start the
rules meeting by 8:45, so please actually try to show up before then.
Since this is Sectionals, we need to go over some ICT stuff at the
beginning, as well as go over eligibility basics and whatnot, so it is
important that we get through it on time so that we can try to start
matches by 9am.

Teams will play in at least 10 matches over the course of the day
(more if we get the right number of teams to show up). Lunch will be
sometime around Round 5 or so (we like to try to have lunch around 1,
but since that is when the basketball game starts, we might aim for
1:30 – we'll discuss this with teams as to whether they want an early
or a late lunch break). It looks like we will be splitting the field
into Division I and Division II teams.

The tournament will definitely be over by 8pm, although we'd like to
try to make it earlier, which means if you register and plan on
attending, be on time!
