Re: 'Ideal' number of rounds?

"

My question is this: for the "national"
tournaments---ACF, CBI, NAQT,
 and Penn Bowl---how many matches
should each team be guaranteed?
 Is there such a
thing as "too many" games? If so, how many? How
many
is too few? And how many matches should the
winning team play?"

One of the greatest appeals
for me of the national-level tournaments is not being
able to play a vast number of games -- rather, I am
immensely attracted to being able to play against a greater
VARIETY of teams. In the course of a year, GW is apt to
play (not an inclusive list): Swarthmore, Cornell,
UMCP, UVa, VaTech, GMU. GW will, in the course of a
year, each of these teams at at least six tournaments.
Now, I'm not saying there's anything BAD about any of
these teams -- it's just that we ALWAYS play
Swarthmore, and Cornell, and UMCP...and it gets to the point
where a player can literally predict his team's record
to within a game before the tournament starts. I'd
rather, just once or twice a year, play against teams
I've never seen before. I was going somewhere with
this point, but I've forgotten where.
