1999-2000 NAQT ICT Update

The Intercollegiate Championship Tournament is a
week away and your intrepid ICT Coordinator has made a
special trip to the Brook Park public library (Cleveland
suburb) to supply some last-minute details. Alas I cannot
get to my Unix account with e-mail contacts. However,
I believe most if not all attending teams have
people on either qb_at_iastate or Yahoo
Clubs.

TRAVEL UPDATE: If you don't already have something
booked, good luck getting a flight now. =) Driving or
public transit directions are at NAQT.com and
people.bu.edu/qbowl, or contact matt979_at_... or qbowl_at_... for
specific answers. If you're flying into T.F. Green airport
near Providence, write to me for instructions
concerning the hourly Bonzanza bus line to Boston's So.
Station.

HOTEL UPDATE: The primary hotel is Howard Johnson's,
Kenmore Square (617) 267-3100. Many teams got into the
block before it expired (as per typical hotel practice,
any unbooked rooms were removed from the block a
month in advance). Still other teams got a group rate
here via me. It's definitely too late to get the block
rate and probably too late to get the group rate (only
one way to find out) but if money is no object then
this is your most convenient place.

Howard
Johnson's-Fenway is a 25-minute walk (at slow to moderate pace)
from the tourney site and apparently about $30 cheaper
than Kenmore for non-special rates (especially with
the Red Sox on the road).

Of other hotels
mentioned on the NAQT site, Best Western is full but that
Holiday Inn probably is not. Other options: The Boston
University org has suggested Priceline or similar services
as the best way to get a cheap last-minute room.
Contact matt979_at_... or qbowl_at_... for advice on
how convenient any particular downtown Boston hotel
is to the site.

For teams who drive but do
not wish to stay in Boston nor book on-line, the best
solution seems to be to call the 1-800 number for your
nationally franchised hotel of choice.

MODERATOR
INFO: The number of expected game officials is
currently in excess of 33, high enough to guarantee good
readers in every room and scorekeepers in somewhere near
half. By quantity, this ICT will be better staffed than
either 1998 or 1999.

Game officials are still
welcome, both to maximize reading talent and to maximize
the number of rooms where no player has to volunteer
to keep score.

Information for game officials
themselves was supposed to be forthcoming earlier this week
but my Internet access has fallen short of what I
hoped for since arriving in Boston earlier this week
(and greater Cleveland for the
weekend).

PLEASE, everybody (teams and officials both) review the
rules on the NAQT web site.

My Internet access
will be spotty until Sunday night (Case Western will
be to thank for whatever access I get before them)
but I'd be happy to answer anyone's questions
ASAP.

Sincerely,
Matt Bruce
ICT Coordinator
(Because this update
was hastily typed, any mistakes (or for that matter
implied opinions) are purely my own and not officially
from NAQT.)
