USF Novice Results

Sorry for the late posting of these results--I left on a trip the day
after the tournament and just returned home last night. And, of
course, today, I am still giddy after the huge Bulls upset over West
Virginia. Anyhow...

The prospects seem brighter for the Florida State University Quiz Bowl
team than for its current gridiron gang. The FSU novice squad of
Joseph K. and Colin H. won the 7th annual Novice Invitational at USF
against a diverse field of juniorbird players from four-year colleges,
community colleges, and high schools. The University of Florida "B"
squad came in second-place, followed by an impressive Ransom
Everglades High School team.

High scorers included Joseph K. (FSU) 83.57 ppg, Jesse Weinberg
(Ransom Everglades) 60.00 ppg, Melissa Munkel (UF B) 60.00 ppg, and
Jaclyn Constantine (Valencia Red) 41.67 ppg.

It should be noted that two spoiler teams, one each from FSU and UF,
went through their respective divisional play undefeated, and FSU's
Billy Beyer (110 ppg) and UF's Travis Vitello (85 ppg) would have been
the runaway top-scorers if eligible...something for the novices to
work toward.

Thanks again to all my readers and volunteers: Scott Pierce, Rob
Fernendez, Ahmad Ragab, Nap, Aaron Layton, Kin O'Berry, Steve Brown,
Brian Conroy, Jim Baker, Carol Cole, Boris Nguyen, Lena
Phelps-Ellerker, Pat Campbell, and all of my student scorekeepers. I
hope I didn't forget anyone. Thanks especially to Scott for the stats
and Aaron for the lunchtime music game.

I will post full results to http://ctr.usf.edu/quizbowl ASAP!
