BISCUIT II - March 21, 2009

UCLA College Bowl Club is pleased to announce:

Bruin International Super CUT-Style Undergraduate Invitational Tournament II

DATE: The tournament will be held on March 21, 2009.

FORMAT: The tournament will be using NAQT IS-85. As a CUT-style tournament, it will be
untimed and individual scores will not be kept.

This tournament is specifically intended to bring new schools and players into quizbowl in
the region. The CUT-style format can greatly benefit newer programs, and we encourage
novice programs and players to enter.

ELIGIBILITY: This undergraduate-only tournament follows CUT-style eligibility rules. For
complete details, see http://naqt.com/hosting/cut-style.html . In short, more experienced
players are limited to 1- and 2-player teams. Please read the referenced eligibility
guidelines carefully and email Avram (ajlyon_at_...) if you have any questions. High
school teams may also register for the tournament. So long as they have not played at or
qualified for NAQT ICT, high school teams can play as teams of four.

PRICING STRUCTURE:
Base fee = $60
-$5 for a fully-functional buzzer system (Must have at least four working buzzers on both
sides)
-$10 for a pre-approved moderator
+$10 if you wish to purchase a hard copy of the questions after the tournament
Minimum fee = $45

Note that the base fee is the same regardless of team size. That said, this tournament is
much, much less expensive than other tournaments, so programs should be able to send
a fair number of teams.

Please make checks payable to "College Bowl Club of UCLA." Please do not make a check
out to any other person or entity, including "UCLA Quiz Bowl," as we cannot cash those
checks.

If you wish to mail your checks in advance, please send them to:
Avram Lyon
925 Weyburn Pl. Apt. 205
Los Angeles, CA 90024

The cap is unofficially going to be set at 24 teams, but we will try to accommodate as
many teams as possible. It is likely that the limiting factor will be moderator availability--
we very much encourage teams to send graduate students as moderators!

The tournament director is Avram Lyon. If you are interested in attending, please e-mail
Avram ajlyon_at_... with the following information:

1) Your school's name
2) Representative's name and e-mail address
3) The number of teams you are bringing
4) The number of buzzer systems and/or moderators you would like to bring

Updates about the tournament will be posted on the hsquizbowl.org forums and on the
quizbowl Yahoo! group; however, they should also be posted online. Our club website is
http://quizbowl.bol.ucla.edu. A link should become available once this announcement has
been posted.

If you have any questions about any of this, please e-mail Avram Lyon at ajlyon_at_....

Thanks and hope to see you March 21, 2008,

Avram Lyon
Tournament Director, BISCUIT II
