Re: NAQT reaction

First a note: Congratulations to Subash,
Dom,Mike, and Chris for what I consider a dominant
performance in the finals rounds over an excellent Chicago
team. Seeing the game played that well took some of the
annoyance at other facets of the tournament
away.

Now:

While I think you have some good points I think you may
have gone a bit far. I thought that there was for
example plenty of literature. However, I though certain
areas withing categories were over represented for
example the M in RMP and lots of fine arts questions on
classic films but few on painting and sculpture.

However, my biggest dissapointment with NAQT ICT was not
the content of the questions specifically, but that
the SAME questions were used for Div 1 and Div 2. The
questions were, in the opinion of just about everyone I
talked to, not near appropriate for Div 2. there was at
least one game I know of where two teams did not reach
a combined score of 100, I seriously doubt the
result of that game could be considered the final say on
which of those teams was better.

As a
sectionals host BGSU made a decision to play in division 2,
both because we were eligible and because we thought
it would be a more enjoyable experience. Frankly, in
retrospect we would have rather gone through the same
frustration inducing questions to finish near the bottom of
the Div 1 field rather than the middle of Div 2. I
almost began to wonder if the 18-20 hours each way via
AMTRAK was worth it, I'm just glad we stayed to watch
the Div 1 final.
