Re: Yahoo Survivor Update (last one for

For the record, look at the earlier messages -
this club actually used to focus on items with some
link to quiz bowl.

I'm going to have to agree
with Edmund on this idea. It's stupid. It's divisive.
And it serves no point.

1. Just because some
people like an idea doesn't make it acceptable. This is
particularly true since some of the participants aren't
thrilled to be included. Survivor didn't kidnap people off
the street and throw them on an island - they wanted
to be there.

2. Survivor has a plot, stupid
though it may be. This has nothing - it's a
poorly-disguised popularity contest, pure and simple.
Theoretically, you should only need one ballot to determine who
"wins" - with that term being used _very_
generously.

I understand that it's a free country, Mr. Goss,
and that you're free to do what you want. But don't
subject everybody else to something that has a
significant chance of becoming exceptionally mean-spirited.
If you have to do this, send the results via email
to those who are interested and leave the rest of us
out.

return to debates over graduate student eligibility and
whether or not CBI is intrinsically evil
