I wasn't even at CP2, but the morning start/afternoon start question is worth commenting on. Responses to two quotes which I'm reversing: <<What difference does it make if it runs late anyway? Ask yourself, "Is my time really that precious that I need to give a damn?">> Trash tournaments attract a large number of "masters" players, who assume travel and lodging expenses themselves rather than from a club budget, will occasionally fly in from wherever, and have real-world commitments. Affordable weekend airfares are generally non-transferable. Yes, my time is that precious, and so's my money. If a tournament wants to attract a more-than-local crowd, then TDs, please throw a bone to the road-warriors. <<However, starting a tournament at 2 PM is a bad thing." Why? I would love to be able to sleep late instead of getting up at 7:30 or earlier for a tournament (and I'm sure I'm not the only one). It promotes a relaxed environment>> My environment is a damn sight far from relaxed if it looks like I'm going to have to forfeit the last three matches to catch the last plane outta town and show up at work on Monday. If a 2 p.m. start has been clearly communicated all along, than players can work around that schedule. But TDs considering an off-the-cuff deviation from what's become tournament S.O.P. should remember that their teams might not all be just a few hours away by van. --Greg
