In the old days when BYU had a program, we played
one match per week for 5-7 weeks and then did all the
playoffs within one more week after that. They did it on
T/W/Th nights because they had 30-50 teams to schedule,
but it generally worked out well. By the time people
got tired of saying, "Again this week?", it was
playoff time and most of them were out
anyway.
They did it again the next semester with the other
half of the questions they'd bought, and you might not
want to make it year-round quite yet. But it worked
pretty well for us.
