Re: Weddings vs. Tournaments

Conversely to Hayden's list...
what they have
in common... somewhat (in the style of comparisons
from Jay Leno).

Weddings: It takes months of
planning to select a date and organize.
Tournaments: It
takes months of planning to select a date (so as not to
conflict with other tournaments or special events). Some
of us take about a week to frantically organize a
tournament... if you're that organized.

Weddings: The
couple picks the flowers, the hymns, and the dress
colors for the bridesmaids.
Tournaments: Tournament
submission, NAQT-written, ACF-style, or
trash?

Weddings: Invitations are printed and sent out. Expect
about 20% positive response.
Tournaments:
Invitations are printed/emailed. Hope for a 20% positive
response.

Weddings: The ceremony shouldn't last more than 30
minutes.
Tournaments: If your match lasts more than 30
minutes...

Weddings: Tossing the bouquet
Tournaments:
Tossup!

Weddings: The guests should bring gifts to the couple,
including money.
Tournaments: The participants should
bring buzzers (and clocks), including
money.

Weddings: It's a great opportunity to meet people of the
opposite sex.
Tournaments: okay... maybe there's more
in common with a bachelor party.

Weddings:
Special moments are captured on film and videotape
(digital media).
Tournaments: Hey, did you remember to
bring the camera?

Weddings: Usually there's so
much going on that the bride and groom don't get to
eat.
Tournaments: You're lucky if the TD eats anything at all that
entire day.

Weddings: After it's all over, the
couple spend time alone on a honeymoon.
Tournaments:
After it's all over, the participants find their way to
the chat room.
