Mid-Atlantic TRASH Comments

On Saturday I attended the TRASH regional
competition at George Washington University. Overall, my
teammates and I had lots of fun playing and seeing parts of
the city.
The tournament itself was very well
run. Aside from a minimum of minor clitches,
everything ran very smoothly. There were schedules for each
team, and posted ones as well. Amazingly, it ran on
schedule! Edmund was always available for any questions,
and all the teams there were very friendly.
	All
the teams, that is, except one. Well, actually, one
person in particular. While standing in the basement
with one of my teammates, we were within earshot of
two fellow QBers who were discussing the tournament.
Person one was heard to say to his companion: "Well,
we're the only TOP SHELF players here." This piqued my
interest, and of course I quite politely asked: "What do
you mean by top shelf?" thinking that perhaps top
shelf meant "older" or something. When the player
answered: "No one else has made my TOP 14 list!" however, I
was shocked. My teammate and I were quite offended,
and while she let it be known, I bit my tongue until
now. Although what he said could have been correct,
how rude to say such things out loud! Your ego is a
semi-private thing, and to speak within three feet of other
people while directly insulting them is disgusting. Why
on earth someone would make such an insulting and
self-absorbed comment is beyond me... oh wait, this is Quiz
Bowl. Besides the fact that this particular player
couldn't even shut up after he answered a question!

So what, my team on average only got 18-20 points
per game. Considering the fact that three people
without their expected fourth player (our sports expert)
for the entire day, three people who missed two
games, managed to place in the middle of the
competition... well, I'm proud of us.
	As for that person,
enjoy your pathetic life, I am sorry you had to mar our
competition. It is a shame such a well-run, fun, enjoyable
competition had to be splotched by such a stupid comment.
Otherwise, congratulation to James on winning Heavy
Rotation, all the other winning teams, and my teammates
Farrah (Kathy) and Jacqulyn (Kelly). Thanks to all, I
had a great time!
