I agree those of you who have said we should drop
the electoral college, but I think there are so many
other reforms we could make too, like instant runoff
voting and selecting Congressmen at-large. If we had
IRV, those Naderites wouldn't have had to waste their
votes, if we used at-large voting by state, third-party
candidates and independents could get elected to the House,
not to mention no more gerrymandering.

Has
anybody noticed that the reason Bush [appears to have]
won is that he won more small states? Since every
state gets two freebie electors corresponding to its
Senators residents of small states have disproportionately
more influence. A voter in Wyoming has three times the
voting power of a Californian. Bush [counting Florida &
Oregon] won 31 states, Gore 19 + DC, if the number of
electors each state got was the same as the number of
representatives it had Gore would have won the e.c. 220-216.
