Truest competition format

We here at DePauw had an interesting idea (ok, so
it was interesting to us) a week or two ago about a
competition to prove whom was really the best individual or
team in Quiz Bowl. What we propose -- and this posting
should serve as an opportunity to critique, add to,
tweak etc. this sugestion -- is a competition, (either
team, individual or doubles) where the rounds consist
of questions alternating between academic and TRASH.
Timing is still to be determined, but can be worked
around. It seems to us that any team who could
consistently win this would be the best team (or group of
players, depending) around, and it would be a fun format
for everyone. If you're like our team, you have
players who are either really academic-minded or really
TRASH minded. This puts in play some fun strategy of
how to put teams together, if it is decided that that
is the route the tournament will go. Please respond
and let us know what you all think. If there is
interest, DePauw is willing to host such a tournament
sometime during the Spring semester, which we feel could
draw a large percentage of the good teams in the
country, due to our central location (the euphemistic way
of saying we're near nothing in particular). Also,
we could work with perhaps East and/or West Coast
schools to run mirrors and see what happens. Just a
thought.
