The man, the myth, the legend, Chip Beall of...
whatever the heck he calls his organization this week. The
Chipmeister runs a MONSTROUS tournament (so large he's gotta
hold it over three weekends!) every year in June,
noted for questions that have zero internal
consistency. People are apparently jealous that this guy gets
all the teams, so they bash him every chance they
get. Me, I just find his egomania in claiming to be
THE national tournament funny, even if he does have
the most legit claim out there, sadly
enough.
All right, enough shading: Why DO we hate this guy so
much? His tournament, while not the best run, is the
most comprehensive for high schoolers, and with over
120 schools, has a legitimate claim to being a
"national" championship. I will admit that during my four
years at Jefferson, we went once (my freshman year, we
were 2-2 with easily our weakest squad), so I don't
have first-hand recollection of what makes him bad in
everyone's minds. I always thought that he was simply a
weird individual who ran a big tournament.
