Re: PB10: Format information

I would like to hear the rationale behind this
change. i.e. in what day does it improve upon the
sixteen-team single elimination system, in terms of
determining a winner?

TOURNAMENT FORMAT.
As in years past, the tournament will
begin with four round-robin brackets, out of which the
top four teams will emerge.

This year, though,
we plan to conduct the playoffs somewhat
differently: rather than start with a single-elimination round
of 16, we will have three rounds of Swiss pairs.
Teams must win two of three matches to advance to the
quarterfinals; therefore, teams winning the first two matches
will have byes into the quarterfinals, and teams that
lose their first two matches will be
eliminated.

After those three rounds, the remaining three rounds
will be single-elimination as in years past.
