Re: Trashy musings

I think that people are missing a point
here.

Trash is not inherently about music, or sports, or
movies. It seems to be more about popular culture.
There's a marked difference between the two. I've heard
of REM, Blink-182, B.B. King, and a few big modern
country artists. I thought that Modest Mouse hung around
inhaling flowers. I know that I have no musical taste -
this is just whom I've heard of.

I'd guess that
all trash tournaments for the next year will have
more questions on the XFL than on the Canton Bulldogs,
more on the Baha Men than (your favorite innovative
band who never gets enough press's name here), and
more on Jackie Chan films than on "Platoon". I don't
think that this is a value judgement - instead, it's a
"these things are popular and thus fit what trash
is".

Trash, to some degree, is also more about fun than about
knowledge - questions on Clash of the Titans, Little Bunny
Foo Foo, and Cotton Eye Joe don't pretend to expand
your horizons but rather to make you laugh and enjoy
yourself.

I'm not saying that it's the correct way, but this
does seem to be the approach that most tournaments
have taken.
