This is a topic on which we fully agree! The College Bowl Regional Tournaments are run by the Association of College Unions International (ACUI) in cooperation with the College Bowl Company, Inc. Under that structure, each ACUI Region determines its own tournament format, schedule, prices, etc. The ACUI College Bowl Committee would be the one to set format requirements and minumum play standards and they have that issue on their agenda for March. If you want to "lobby", the committee list is on our web pages (ACUI section). Most ACUI Regions are in fact using full round robin formats this year. There are only a very few exceptions. I am not sure about Region 1. Last we knew, it depended on the number of teams. We at CBCI strongly support using a full round robin format unless it is physically impossible due to game packet and/or volunteer constraints. To us, any tournament under 17 teams should be a full round robin, but there are reasons why that cannot always be the case. I have personally spent many, many hours just this week working producing RR grids for the Regional Coordinators. I am pleased that at least three regions which were planning on a more limited modified round robin format have now changed their formats to a full round robin (not bad for a week's work in my book). We have some incentivized plans for the Regions for the 2002 RCT's and I hope that we can get all Regions doing more agressive round robin tournaments. Players CAN help make sure that this occurs: *Express your opinions and suggestions early and often to your ACUI Regional Coordinator. *Let the ACUI College Bowl Committee know how you feel about minimum play standards. Be specific as to the situation in your region and what you would suggest. *Offer to host next year's RCT and commit to helping increase the number of rooms, equipment and staffing available from the host campus. *Bring extra people to serve as volunteers at the ACUI Regional tournaments. *Register your team for next year's RCT in December so that the Regional Coordinator can plan properly.
