Region 14 doesn't really have many people - you
and one person from Oregon appear to be it here.
Since most of the programs are also new, they don't
have lots of alumni who follow
them.
Motivation's always a tricky issue - you want people to get
ready to win, but you don't want them too wound up.
It's also usually more personal, since teams don't
work closely together on tossups.
My only real
try at motivation was reminding Georgetown when we
played Pittsburgh in the Region IV championship in 1998.
I reminded Georgetown that Pittsburgh's players had
slept in their dorm rooms the night before, while we
slept four people to a hotel room.
Of course, we
still lost.
