ANNOUNCE: March Madness, QB Style

Those of you familiar with me know that I like
college basketball as much as I do qb. Those of you
familiar with the group and its predecessors know I like
to combine the two around late February to early
March. It's that time again.

THE 3RD ANNUAL
QUIZBOWL FIELD OF 64!

Here is the way this
works:

(1) Around this time, I solicit people to fill out
the field. Everyone gets a vote. More on this
later.

(2) I compile the votes using my own formula and
assemble a field of 64 that is kosher to the NCAA's rules
of seeding.

(3) People fill out their
brackets and send them to me.

(4) I announce the
winners of the games based on the votes. Do not question
me on this.

Now, how to fill out your
bracket:

(a) You will see a list of teams from each
conference. The teams in ALL CAPS were at an ACF Regional or
NAQT Sectional, or placed in the top four in their CBI
Regional. The order I choose for posting the teams is
alphabetical, so think nothing of it.

(b) Yes, I know
teams like Chicago, Case Western, Swarthmore, etc.,
aren't on the list; If there's enough interest, we'll
have a 32- or 64-team tournament for them, too.
Okay?

(c) You MUST choose at least one team from each
conference. With 31 conferences, that leaves 33 at-large
teams (play-in game be damned).

(d) They are
seeded in four groups of 1-16, such that there are four
of each rank. The regions are East, Midwest, South,
and West, but there is nothing preventing you from
sending a team outside of their natural region (i.e.,
travel budget should not factor into your selection;
assume all teams will accept bids).

(e) Send this
form to me at Durham_Devil_at_... so that I can
tabulate the results. The form is due, oh, let's say
Monday, February 26.

(f) Don't think too hard
about it.

A list of eligible teams will be in
the next post.
