Re: Necessity of stats?

Tournaments should do stats, but ONLY IF THEY CAN
PRODUCE THE STATS WITHOUT OTHERWISE IMPACTING THE
TOURNAMENT. This means that if you can't spare a stats
person, don't try to do it. The only stats that you need
to keep track of are the minimal stats necessary to
determine the playoff teams or winner, and to sort out
tiebreakers. Everything else is just gravy.

At a
tournament like Penn Bowl, there is just too much going on
in too many places to reasonably expect the TD to be
able to produce reasonably up to date
stats.

I'll say it again: if you can't spare the resources to
do the stats, don't try. All you will end up doing
is lessening the quality of the tournament. I like
stats as much as the next guy, but I'll never complain
about them not being available if the TD doesn't feel
like he can handle it.
