CUT 3 Results

CUT 3, the third annual Carleton Undergraduate
Tournament, was held on Saturday, March 3.

Our
champion, who went 11-1 on the day, was Carleton Moo Goo
Gai Pan, consisting of Ted Salk and Will Cavert. In
the finals they defeated Minnesota Morris and Boris,
consisting of Jer Smith and Scott Benolkin. Third place, the
final trophy position, went to Iowa State Days of
Pompeii, consisting of Mickey TeKippe, Matt Cvijanovich,
Tim Kearns, and Jeff Morrison.

Ladder-style
playoffs were preceded by round robins in two eleven-team
divisions, with these results:

This tournament saw the
circuit debuts of two new teams: Loyola University, which
had previously played only College Bowl regionals,
and Grinnell College, which sent two teams to CUT as
their first intercollegiate quizbowl competition of any
sort, at least in the past decade. Note that each of
these "newbie" schools debuted rather well, placing
teams in the top ten of a 22-team field. We hope to see
