At my HS (Edison in Huntington Beach, CA), there was
a "class" called "academic competition" in by one
could get credit for the morning quiz bowl practices.
One day in three years, there was a fruitless attempt
to get us to memorize things in the library. And I
don't think anyone needed the course credit anyhow, and
it certainly didn't towards any requirement anyone
would want to satisfy. But you're wrong.
