I'm not sure how
many people believe me when I add up the
quizbowl-community winners from that show and tell non-quizbowlers
that I've now known, at least slightly, and entirely
through quizbowl, fully 19 players who have made it to
the hotseat, with total winnings now close to seven
million dollars.
I was thrilled to be able to be
a footnote to the story of the crowning of the new
"greatest gameshow moneywinner in history" story. Having
the quiz bowl contacts he has, Kevin had lined up a
pretty impressive group of possible lifelines, and I
hadn't expected actually to be called. Thank goodness
when I was it was something I could in fact help him
with and be certain about -- it would be *horrible* in
such a situation to steer a friend wrong!
