ACF (part three)

Still, ultimately ACF I suppose more than
anything else does not refer to difficulty but rather to
true pyramid style academic questions. It would be
difficult to write a tossup with Jefferson as the answer in
most QB formats without giving away the answer
immediately, but in ACF you could begin, His probably
platonic love affair with the portraitist Maria Cosway led
to his famed My Head and my Heart letter although
Faun Brodie in her biography argued that it was
actually his heart which won out. And that would be a
legit ACF tossup opener. I intend to think in terms of
more gettable tossups on packets that I write in the
future.

I respect and appreciate NAQT, theyre
professionally run and a class act. But for the sake of
gettability their academic (at least at the sectional level)
appears to either be trashy academic, 20th century or
heavy on the Americanain other words, I like
everything about the organization except for the questions.
I dont fault them for that however, theyre
producing a commodity which is in demand and Im glad that
theyre around as a much better alternative to
CBI.

Note to Matt Schmeller, I read Borges long before
O.Henry and Im sure thats true of many othershes
probably the most instant recognizable Latin American
author to most I suppose (besides maybe Gabriel Garcia
Marquez?). Good post though.

To Matt Weiner, Id
like to see the literature list which includes
Evenings on a Farm Near Didankaall the qb lists that Ive
seen so far never go into depth and wouldnt suit more
than a novice player. Evenings on a Farm is
worthwhile knowledge, it played a similar role in Gogols
development to that of Sportsmans Sketches in
Turgenevs.

My three cents,
Nathan
