Re: D2K1 (not so brief this time :) )

Damn...this is what happens when I don't look at
the message board for a few days? I should shut my
damned mouth.

Anyway, to correct Ms. Mondoux on
one point (but only one), I do not think that 1T/2B
in a trash pack on soul/funk music is excessive,
especially considering how rarely it is asked about even in
trash play. The tossup was on the Isley Brothers. One
bonus was on the recently-deceased Pops Staples; the
other was on various R&B session groups (MFSB, the
Bar-Kays and Booker T. & the MGs). Within that style of
music, these people are not in any way obscure, but it
all depends on who's calling things obscure.
<shrug>

The pack also had questions on Aaliyah's "Try Again",
Sinead O'Connor's _I Do Not Want What I Haven't Got_,
Peter Gabriel's "Sledgehammer" and the Zombies, none of
whom could EVER be mistaken for vintage
R&B/soul.

Allyson and her teammates did not care for this material,
and I can understand that. It is in all likelihood a
subgenre that they choose to ignore, much as the
particular things her team wrote about are things our team
chooses to ignore.

Allyson, I am sorry if your
team was upset with our choice of music material. We
should probably agree that we have very different ideas
of what makes a good pack and leave it at
that.
