Regarding South Dakota's performance, I can
report that they are anchored by Eric Newhouse, a 2nd
year player who is not a collegiate quizbowl veteran
to my knowledge. At CB Regionals this year he led
the USD team to a two-victory upset over the U of M
in the finals (I believe he had something like 9 or
11 TUs in the final game). At CBI Nationals he was
the 3rd highest scorer, leading in both total TUs and
Negs.
I would expect USD to contend for the
Region 10 title and do well at the NCT if they get
there, for as long as Eric is around and they can keep
recruiting supporting members of their current
caliber.
