UCI Open III
July 13-14, 2001

Hi,
everybody! This is your official invitation to the third
annual UC Irvine Open Tournament.

Who: Anybody
who wants to play quiz bowl, teams of 3 or 4
players
What: An open/masters tournament and B.Y.O.T. III 
bring your own trash!
When: July 13 (6:00 PM  11:30
PM) and July 14 (10:00 AM  7:00 PM)
Where:
Humanities Hall, Room 262, UC Irvine main campus
Why:
Because we love quiz bowl
How: Form a team, sign up,
write a wonderful packet, and
play!

Packets:
This is a packet-submission tournament. Thanks to Eric
Hilleman of Carleton College, who has agreed let us mirror
his Wisconsin tournament, we will have well-edited
packets this time. Please observe the packet-writing
guidelines (see below) and submit your wondiferous packet in
a timely fashion to Mr. Hilleman
(ehillema_at_...). 

Entry Fees:
 $90 base fee
-$10 for
bringing a set of functional buzzers for 8 players (one
per team, please)
-$10 for the second team from
the same school, city, or professional
institution
-$20 for the third team from the same school, city, or
professional institution
-$40 for bringing a very
experienced moderator who will read full-time
-$60 for
submitting an approved packet to Mr. Hilleman by Monday,
June 4, 2001
-$40 for submitting an approved packet
to Mr. Hilleman by Monday, June 11, 2001
-$20 for
submitting an approved packet to Mr. Hilleman by Monday,
June 18, 2001
-$ 0 for submitting an approved
packet to Mr. Hilleman by Monday, June 25, 2001
+$50
if you do not write an approved packet by Tuesday,
June 26, 2001
The minimum entry fee per team is
$30.
If you choose not to write a packet, your entry fee
is $140 (all other discounts still
apply).

Tournament Format:
This is negotiable. We will likely
play at least a round robin. We can play trash on
Friday and open on Saturday if everybody agrees. Please
