All of this reminds me of what Clemenza said in
"The Godfather": "It's been "ten years" since the last
Mafia blood-war, but they often have healing
consequences. Helps to get rid of the bad blood."
In
"The Godfather", they had Five Families; we have Four
Formats. In "The Godfather," they wait 5-10 years between
Mafia blood-wars; we wait 5-10 months maybe?
But
I think Dave is right: while format flame wars may
be vitriolic, they lead to improvements in the
circuit as a whole -- thus "helping to get rid of the bad
blood".
Might there be nicer ways to express grievances? I
would think so, but maybe there would not be as much
impetus to change?
I dunno -- just some thoughts.
