Re: Pub Quizzes (part 2)

Nathan bemoaned a dubious question, then asked:
"Is this standard for pub quizzes in
Britain?"

No! Don't blame us for what we send abroad!
:)

Pub quizzes over here fall into two categories - the
good and the terrible. The terrible are mostly worse
than you described, with quizmasters who will swear at
you if you dare question their judgement, "facts"
that are blatantly wrong, questions that are on the
dull side of tedious and a million-and-one other
faults.

The good ones are excellent. The questions are
wide-ranging and challenging enough to seperate the teams.
They are interesting and fun. They use pictures, music
and anything else they can think of. They are, in
short, worth an evening of your time.

In a town
like Oxford, it's easy to tell the difference between
the two. The bad ones will struggle to half-fill the
pub on a quiet quizzing night. The quiz machine will
have more interest. However, for the good ones, you
have to arrive at least an hour beforehand to get a
table.

So as for your quiz, I think the pub quiz must just
be something that doesn't really travel well
:)
