...Hmmmmm... I'd hate to see David L. feel obligated to clear
everything off this club list that's even moderately
tangential. I can understand clearing *old* tangents,
flamewars, etc. away, but cutting off a quizbowler's right
to ramble is a bit harsh! After all, we *are* the
National Loose Association Association, or we wouldn't be
playing QB!

I hope that the power to clear away
old posts doesn't turn into another arm of the topic
police. Such efforts are usually well-intentioned -- but
a few years back, after the Novell users' Usenet
groups divided and started enforcing a no-tangents
policy, a good 50% of the bandwidth of each group wound
up devoted to messages like "Please take this to the
'Administrators Over Age 50 In Small Companies East of the
Mississippi Group'. This is the "Applications Programmers
Under 6' Tall In Nonprofit Organizations In Coastal
Cities Group.' "

In other words, it didn't help a
bit. Please, let's not do this.
