Censoring Posts

I've been thinking about this for a while, and I
have decided to voice my opinion. I speak of the posts
deleted by Mr. Levinson. I first want to say that I have
never met Mr. Levinson, and I thnak him for founding
this forum, and I do not dispute that it is his right
to delete certain posts as moderator. However, I do
feel that it should not be done at all.

There
seems to be a fundamental unfairness that some posts
make it through and some do not only because Mr.
Levinson caught them in time. I fully realize that Mr.
Levinson works a full day like many of us, but if one is
going to censor some that are offensive, shouldn't all
then be censored?

Secondly, even though the
flame wars are somewhat off-topic and the attacks are
certainly off-topic, this is the hand quizbowl has dealt
itself. We all are part of the quizbowl community, and if
this is part of it, we all will have to deal with
it.

Thirdly, I don't feel founding other clubs is the answer.
This has to be dealt with here. Founding other clubs
is akin to the Judean Peoples Front vs. The People's
Front of Judea. If personal attacks and invective is
what people want to post, so be it. Selective deletion
is not the answer, and certainly not in the ad hoc
way in which it is done.
