I had often wondered how handicapped
teams and individuals were accomodated in general,
having met a few people who had special needs want to
play quiz bowl but couldn't because first it involved
travel and second there was simply too much moving
around involved at tournaments. While travel is
unavoidable, a solution to the second problem for those whose
movement is restricted would seem to be looser time
schedules to allow teams with special needs to move about,
or simply scheduling all of one team's matches in
one room.
Otherwise, one wonders how those in
wheelchairs or with other walking aids could scramble up
three flights of stairs in time for the next match when
elevators were not available (granted, this is a building
code issue).
