Tom, you make an excellent point, and you may be
right about the numbers of people who do not even think
about playing in college. However, if those of us who
will be getting some of these kids know that we're
getting them, perhaps we can get a head start on trying
to change their minds and having them come in and
help our program.
In my mind, that's been half
the fun of running this silly little team of ours for
a year and a half now -- finding the people on
campus that can help it. There are quite a few of the
school's best who probably won't play this coming season
due to academic commitments (including the 4th
leading 2000 ICT Div. II scorer), so I have to find other
avenues to field a competitive squad. This is one way
that if ANYONE is coming to DePauw (I'm not exactly
betting the bank on this), I can find them and encourage
them to at least come and have a good time, as more
people is almost always more fun than fewer
people.
