Cancel Bowl Comments

Congrats to Marc Coen and his BU cohorts (Sarah
Harriman and Jon Couture) for putting together a great
time this weekend at Cancel Bowl II: Shave My Poodle.
Of course, any tournament always looks greater when
you win the thing, but I would say I had a great time
even if my team hadn't
won.

Observations...
1. I wouldn't have such a negative opinion of Boston
if the stereotypes weren't so dead-on. Getting beer
spilled on me in Fenway was such a nice touch.

2.
The semi-final game vs. Tim Young/Phil Castagna was a
game for the ages, especially the overtime. There's
nothing that says quality packet when the final score in
a 3-tossup/bonus OT was 15 to -10. It was almost
like there was a bat loose in the packet.

3.
And now, brought to you by a generous grant from The
Chubb Group, Part XVI in a never ending saga on how to
write a question. With a guerilla edited tournament,
the chances for repeats are always possible. And sure
enough, during one game I heard a tossup where their
lead-in was my giveaway. The question had to do with the
comic strip Get Fuzzy. In the version I heard, it
started out with the clue "Bucky the cat...". Gee, that's
only one of the three main characters, where can it
possibly go from there? If you know the strip, you'll know
it there. If you don't know the strip, you'll never
get it. It's simple, folks: start with fact that a
few people have heard, followed by a fact that some
people have heard, and finally fact that most people
have heard. For the record, my lead-in was
"Ironically, the artist for this comic strip is not allowed to
have pets in his own apartment."
