Well, of course we've put up many
all women teams, but it's helpful that we're a
women's college. When all else fails (we're a small
women's college, and we sometimes have trouble rounding
up enough teammates), we form a team with Harvey
Mudd. We have had one all female "Scrudd"
team.
Still, we have played on more coed teams than
single-sex. The problem here is that we have trouble keeping
members. I think for many women it's difficult to hang out
with women all the time and then go to male-dominated
quiz bowl tourneys. Lots of them leave after their
first tournament, never to show up at practice again.
It's sad. I'm just happy that our area of the country
is fairly low-key and non-agressive (sexually, at
least), or else we wouldn't keep
anyone.
